Silver Iodide is used in photography. Iodine is also a nutrient that we need for our body, because if we don’t, we will lack Iodine in our body and lack of iodine is the cause of goiters. So, it’s added to table salt to prevent goiter. We need Iodine for our thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency is an important health problem in a lot of places and countries, so there fore, that’s why its sometimes added to table salt. Iodine compounds are important in organic chemistry and useful in medicine. Iodide, and thyroxin that has iodine, are used internally in medicine. To disinfect external wounds, a mix of KI (Potassium Iodide) and Iodine in alcohol will help. Hair dyes, or just dyes in general, contain iodine. Iodine is used in skin soaps and bandages, and for cleaning water. Halogen light bulbs have iodine in them.
