Iodine has 53 electrons and 53 Protons and 74 Neutrons.
The most common compounds of iodine are the iodides of sodium and potassium (KI) and the iodates (KIO3).
occurs naturally only in combination in small quantities (as in sea water or rocks)
Iodine compounds are used as germicides, antiseptics, and dyes
Iodine is a dark-gray to purple-black, lustrous, solid element with a rhombic crystalline structure. It is the least active of the halogens, which are found in group VIIa of the periodic table.
When heated it passes directly from the solid to the vapor state (sublimation), the vapor having an intense violet color and a characteristic irritating odor
Reactivity Rating: 3 - Severe (Oxidizer)
Boiling Point: 184.35 ş C
Melting Point: 113.5 şC
Atomic Mass Average: 126.9045
