helium has 2 protons neutrons and electrons.. 2 is heliums atomic #. every element has the same # of protons neutrons and electrons. the # of protons neutrons and electrons is the atomic #.

Helium is the second lightest element known to man. In 1868, English astronomer Sir Joseph Lockyer and French astronomer Pierre Janssen were concurrently but independently engaged in studying an eclipse of the Sun through a spectroscope, they both observed a yellow band of light, that to that point in time had never been noticed among any other known elements. As it was discovered during the solar eclipse, Lockyer suggested it should be called HELIUM after the Greek name HELIOS meaning 'Of the SUN'.
