Sodium has 11 protons, 12 nuetrons, and 11 electrons. What is the atomis mass of sodium? |
Well, it is really simple. Atomic mass is the sum of protons and neutrons. So for sodium it is 11+12 = 23. But in fact it is a little bit complicated :)
In nature there can be sodium atom with 12 neutrons but also with 11 neutrons. So atomic mass isn't strictly 23 but 22.98977 (because of sodium atom with 11 neutrons).
